Hunewill Guest Ranch

Bridgeport

Hunewill Guest Ranch cattle ranch vacation ranch in Bridgeport California

Napoleon Bonaparte Hunewill and his wife Esther Hughes started raising cattle in the late 1800's to supply beef to the mining town of Bodie. In 1931, during the Depression, when a good steer brought just 5 cents per pound, the Hunewill's opened the ranch to guests. Folks continue to enjoy the beautiful scenery, world class horseback riding, and the company of the great people that this place attracts. Cattle moving is available weekly to those who care to join. For those who just can't get enough, there are specific stays featuring just cow work. The spring & fall cattle work packages feature sorting, moving, doctoring, and tagging. During the Big Fall Gather, cows and calves are brought down from the summer range to the home ranch and there is an opportunity to camp out with the chuck wagon. On the November cattle drive, 600 head are driven from the summer to the winter ranch.

Games with other children, snacks and picnics on the lawn, visits to the ranch bakery, and strolls to see ranch animals are all part of the program for the under six crowd.
